The Test for Real Renunciation

From: Go Forward : Letters to Spiritual Seekers by Swami Premeshananda.

They say: If, when you are sick, the question arises in your mind, “Should I eat or should I not eat?” it is better not to eat. If the question arises, “Should I answer the call of nature or not?” it is better to do so. And if the question comes to the mind, “Should I renounce hearth and home for the realization of God or not?” it is better not to. Such sayings are very sensible—they are the fruits of the experience of the experts.

Real renunciation comes when one performs all actions as worship of the Lord with unremitting, supreme faith for a long time in order to turn all of the actions and thoughts of life toward liberation.
